Here is an update on the current legal happenings in the industry.
Current Legislation Brewing
- Expect changes to medical vertical integration, such as changing the 70/30 rule and also to not count intra-company transfers toward that cap.
- A separate bill is also in the works to allow MIP-to-MIP transfers in medical facilities similar to recreational.
- Aguilar is running a bill making it a Level 2 misdemeanor to sell marijuana on Craigslist. So, for any of you that run specials that way, better re-think it!
- Adding PTSD as a pre-approved medical condition is moving forward.
- Home delivery service is being proposed, though the exact content/scope of the bill is still in flux.
- Stay tuned for other bills as the wording/concepts are finalized.
Labeling and the MED
The MED has re-convened the workgroup for a complete overhaul of label requirements for all products. The first meeting was Feb 15, with 3-4 more scheduled. Vincente Sederberg is working on trying to develop some standard labeling concepts nation-wide; Jordan Wellington presented the status of their work at this meeting. The workgroup will forge ahead in the next 4-6 weeks. There are 15 or so representatives on the workgroup itself, with 25-35 people in the audience last week. There are lots of perspectives, and a consensus toward current labels being too crowded and change too often.
Hemp Expo
The NoCo Hemp Expo is coming up at the Budweiser Event Center in Loveland March 31 – April 1. Having attended this since it started at a little bar in Windsor in 2010, it is interesting to see just how large this show has become. It’s a great place to make connections for those of you looking for additional “ingredients” for your products.
