TERPENES IN CANNABIS
Cannabis terpenes are naturally occurring chemical compounds found in plants and some animals. They’re responsible for the aromas, flavors, and even colors associated with various types of vegetation. The terpenes in cannabis are what make certain strains smell or taste different from others.
Terpenes are produced in the trichomes of the cannabis plant, the same glands that produce other cannabinoids such as CBD and THC.
Terpenes provide the flavor, scent, and aroma in cannabis and can have synergistic effects with cannabinoids when consumed together.
There are 100+ different terpenes in the cannabis plant. Much progress has been made in making classification of terpenes and their effects easy for patients and consumers to understand. Terpenes can be classified as sweet, sour, spicy, or bitter.
